On Saturday, October 6, 2007 riders will be revving up for the fight against breast cancer on this year’s week long Polka Dot Tour. Pink polka-dot ribbons, symbolizing breast cancer infused with attitude, will be flying as survivors and supporters hit the streets on motorcycles and RVs, circling the state of Florida to bring awareness to the growing number of women diagnosed with breast cancer each year.
Led by Peggy Sherry (a two time breast cancer survivor) and her husband Glen, the Polka Dot tour will spread the important message of self-examination, early diagnosis, minority health disparities, treatment options and clinical trials as they spread the power of attitude, hope, courage and perseverance. Visits will be made to hospitals, courthouse steps, clinics and venues attracting new supporters along the way with a new attitude in the fight against breast cancer. Beginning in Brandon/Tampa, the tour will stop in Ozello, Panama City, Wakulla Springs, Jacksonville, Daytona, Boca Raton, Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, Key Largo, Miccosukee Reservation, Naples, Ellenton and New Port Richey. A full ride itinerary is available on their website. You can attend the week long ride, part of route or plan on meeting up with the group at one of their planned stops/events. All proceeds go to the Faces of Courage Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides, at no cost to the participants, day outings and overnight camps for women and children with cancer. “Cancer is serious; camp is serious fun!”
