2006 Stuntwars was slated to be the biggest yet. I have been attending and competing in Stuntwars since the beginning, and I have watched it grow into the biggest stunt event in America. Four world champion riders made the trip across the pond to face off with the best the US has to offer. Ac Farias (Spain), Chris Pfeiffer (Germany), Feri Potzner (Hungary), and up and coming French rider Cyril would make this a history making event. The event kicked off with open practice on Friday the 10th, when riders traveling from the colder climates were blessed with near perfect, 70-degree temperatures.
The practice sessions were limited to competitors only this year in an attempt to reduce overcrowding that has been a problem for the last few years. However, by 3:00 Friday afternoon, well over 100 riders had already registered, so like past years, dealing with poor track conditions, and a 100+ guys all trying to get in last minute practice before qualifying on Saturday, was nerve racking to say the least. But this is always the best part of the weekend, everybody in one place throwing down everything they have been working on for the past year is an inspiring thing to see. The best riding all week, was displayed during practice. Saturday the 11th was set aside for qualifying, and the whole day would be needed, as more than 100 guys battled for the top 20 spots in Individual Freestyle. Just as the last few competitors finished up their runs, the skies opened up and the down pour began. All track events would be canceled, and all entries for Long Stoppie would get a free pass to the finals since they would not have time to qualify. The main events on Sunday would get off to a late start and track conditions were dangerous to say the least. 50 degree temperatures, together with a dirty track, and 30 mph winds would hinder competitors all day, especially in Long Stoppie. A few near misses at the pick up line left myself, and several others with a mental block that would not be overcome. As the day went on, things only got worse. A couple big burnouts, and a couple spills left oil and debris all over the already deadly surface. Not to say the weekend was all bad, some of the best riding I have ever seen took place at this years event. Getting a chance to ride with some of the guys that I have looked up to for so long, was really a dream come true!
