The Art Of Chrome And Leather At Deland Museum Of Art PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 01 March 2007

The Deland Museum of Art hosts Art of Chrome and Leather, an exhibition of the motorcycle artwork of Chris Cruz, world renowned artist from Deland. One look at any of Chris' creations will make you realize he is not your typical motorcycle artist. Chris is a classically trained artist who began his career creating portraits in oils and pastels. His love of motorcycles (influenced by his father's motorcycle shop) eventually took him down the path of airbrushing motorcycles, boats, cars, etc. where he now has a several month waiting list.

At the museum, you will find choppers, trikes and cruisers on display from collections around the United States. The featured bike is a Boss Hoss trike entitled "Flashback- A tribute to the Vietnam War Veterans". It is a visual chronological account of Vietnam Veteran, Lew Winters, a Huey Helicopter Crew Chief in 1970-71. Some additional highlights include the "Bomber" a creation reminiscent to the old bomber airplanes and "Margaritaville" a trike decked out Jimmy Buffet style. In addition to the artwork of Chris Cruz there is display on bike racing featuring Billy "Ace" Meyers with vintage images of racing on the sands of Daytona Beach.

The Art of Chrome And Leather is on display at the Deland Museum of Art February 23-March 11, 2007. There is a Chrome And Leather Bash fund-raiser taking place on Friday, March 3rd at 7pm and a Westside Ride leaving Daytona USA on March 4th at 8am for a scenic ride through Volusia County ending at the museum.
