The City Commission of Delray Beach met on Tuesday to vote on an proposed ordinance that would ban motorcycles from a five block section of Atlantic Avenue. The commission stated that there were numerous complaints from patrons and shop owners of motorcycles revving their engines as they passed the many outdoor restaurants and high end shops on the avenue.
News of the proposed ban on motorcycles began circulating through the motorcycle community via emails and blog posts. It didn't take long before the Delray City Commission was inundated with phone calls and emails from motorcycle riders and organizations across the country urging them to reconsider.
The commission meeting opened to a standing room only crowd of bikers who came out to make sure their voices were heard. And indeed their voices were heard!
The commission didn't even vote on the proposed ordinance. Instead, they decided to modify an existing ordinance that would allow police officers to write tickets to motorcycles who violate the allowed decibel levels.
